Let’s Talk About It: Overcoming the Stigma of Going to Therapy

At A New Leaf Therapy, we believe therapy should be just as normal as going to the doctor when you’re not feeling well. Because mental health is health.

And the truth is, lots of people go to therapy! There's something in it for everyone. We work with people from all walks of life, including highly successful professionals, parents, college students, healthcare workers, first responders, and business owners. If you think you’re the only one struggling, you’re not. If you think you’re the only one in therapy, also not true.

We’re finally living in a time when talking about mental health is becoming more accepted, but the stigma hasn’t completely gone away. Many people still feel hesitant, embarrassed, or unsure about asking for help. But here’s the thing: therapy isn’t a sign of weakness... it’s a sign of strength, insight, and self-respect.

Another great thing about therapy? It’s confidential. If you want to talk openly about it, that’s wonderful. But if you’d rather keep it private, you absolutely can and that's wonderful too. What you say in your sessions, and the fact that you’re even in therapy, are nobody’s business but yours. You’re in control of who knows.

You don’t have to wait until you hit a crisis point. Just like you’d see a doctor for prevention or check-ups, therapy is a powerful tool to stay emotionally well, reduce stress, improve relationships, and grow as a person. And if you are in a hard season of life? That’s exactly what we’re here for.

We want to normalize therapy for everyone. Whether you’re trying to manage anxiety, work through trauma, build confidence, or simply want someone to talk to in a safe space, you belong here.

If you’re ready to take that first step (or come back after some time away), we’re here and ready to support you.

Let’s break the stigma. Together.
